Henri Jayer: The Iconic Winemaker Who Changed Burgundy Forever

Henri Jayer was born in 1922 in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of Burgundy, France. After studying oenology at the University of Dijon in the 1940s, Jayer returned home and began cultivating vineyards during World War II under a métayage (sharecropping) agreement with Madame Noirot-Camuzet. This allowed him to keep a portion of the grapes and begin making wine under his own name.
