Château Mouton Rothschild 2015

Chateau Mouton Rothschild has a very long history and is today one of the most renowned and sought-after Chateaux in France. However, it was classed as a second growth in the 1855 classification. After much effort, it was upgraded to first growth in 1973, which has never happened before in the history of the left bank. Another special feature is that the chateau changes its label every year, which is always designed by a different well-known artist.

Now about the wine I have in my glass : a 2015 Mouton , the vintage is one of the most successful and warmest in recent times. The result, however, is a highly elegant wine with notes of black cherry, plum, blackcurrant, a touch of eucalyptus and mint that give the wine a lot of freshness and character of its own. Extremely velvety and soft on the palate with a lot of depth and again beautiful fresh peppermint, long baroque finish. Of all the other 2015s from other first growths that I have tasted, Mouton is the only one that is enormously enjoyable when young, with very fine and soft tannins, but of course the wine is very young and will benefit from at least a decade of bottle ageing.

Basically, it is always worth buying a Mouton En-Primuer because the wines usually cost more after the release and there is always a chance that it will get a high rating and an enormous increase. It is best to invest in large bottle formats as they are in particularly high demand.
