The winery was founded by Peter Sisseck, a Danish oenologist who previously came from Bordeaux. First produced in 1995, the wine immediately achieved cult status following enthusiastic reviews by Robert Parker in the Wine Advocate and is now considered one of Spain's finest wines. The winery produces a total of three wines: Pingus, Flor de Pingus and PSI.
The 2015 Pingus is a triumph of elegance and power, a wine that seems to hum with quiet intensity. In the glass, it presents a deep, opaque ruby hue, signaling its depth and concentration. The nose is immediately captivating: dark cherries, wild blackberries, and ripe plums swirl with aromas of violets, graphite, and exotic spices. Subtle notes of sandalwood, cedar, and crushed rock add an earthy, mineral edge that hints at the wine’s origins in biodynamically farmed, old-vine Tempranillo. On the palate, Pingus 2015 is both opulent and precise. It glides across the tongue with silken tannins and remarkable freshness, balancing the richness of fruit with piercing acidity and a sense of restrained power. Layers of black fruit, cocoa, anise, and a touch of savory tapenade unfold gradually, each sip revealing new complexities. The finish is soaring—long, detailed, and persistent, echoing with spice and minerality long after the wine has left the glass. There is a spiritual quality to this vintage—a serene confidence that speaks not of flamboyance but of depth, terroir, and time. Though already stunning in its youth, Pingus 2015 promises decades of evolution ahead, growing ever more profound.
